Albena Petrovic

D’origine bulgare, Albena Petrovic a sa place parmi les compositeurs luxembourgeois.

Plus de six cent œuvres dans des genres musicaux différents sont créés par sa plume. Son Altesse Royale Henri, Grand-Duc de Luxembourg attribue en 2013 à la compositrice l'Ordre de Mérite du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg et la nomination CHEVALIER. En 2007 elle reçoit la prestigieuse commande de l'Année Culturelle 2007 Luxembourg et Grande Région pour la composition «Gladius» pour guitare électrique et ensemble instrumental.
La Commission Culturelle et Madame le Maire, Mme Thérèse Gantenbein, lui ont attribué le «Prix Culturel 2007» et le titre de « Méritant » pour la Commune d' Hesperange. En 2007 Albena Petrovic représentait le Grand-Duché de Luxembourg en siégeant en tant que membre du jury du Concours International de Composition « Valentino Bucchi » à Rome, Italie.
Beaucoup de ces composition sont publiées par des éditeurs de renom, dont Schott Music, Luxembourg Music Publishers, Furore Verlag, Octanphare Edition, Editions Phi. Son œuvre pédagogique est publiée par son édition privée.

Née à Sofia, en 1965, Albena Vratchanska est la troisième génération d'une famille de musiciens. Elle adopte le nom artistique Petrovic au Luxembourg.
Dès lors, elle impose son envie d'étudier la musique malgré les défis. Décidée à commencer le piano dès l'âge de dix ans, (trop tard pour le système éducatif d'Europe de l'Est), Albena compose déjà à onze ans. Elève brillante, elle n'a jamais eu d'obstacles et maîtrise le savoir-faire dans tous les domaines de la musique. Suivant l'exemple de son grand-père, le compositeur Andrey Vrachansky, elle décide de devenir compositeur professionnel. Albena crée sa première œuvre en public en 1979 à l'âge de 14 ans, pour l'Assemblée Internationale des enfants. Cet événement est suivi de nombreux concerts, qui représentent un vrai laboratoire de recherches créatifs et une source de motivation. Après avoir accompli ses études générales et musicales à l'Ecole Nationale de Musique «P.Pipkov», Albena poursuit ses études de composition, de direction et d'écritures musicales à l'Académie Nationale de Musique « Pancho Vladiguérov » à Sofia. Elle est élève de professeurs de composition Plamen Djouroff et Alexander Raychev. Albena occupe le poste de musicologue et Music Manager pour le Festival International «Apollonia»et à l'Agence Nationale de Musique à Sofia. Comme beaucoup des musiciens de la génération du Mur de Berlin, elle est contrainte de partir à l'étranger pour y exercer son métier de pianiste. Depuis 1996, Albena vit et travaille au Luxembourg. Elle y perfectionne ses compétences en composition contemporaine, analyse et informatique musicale auprès de M. Claude Lenners, en adoptant et développant un style fort influencé par son « Culte de la Recherche ».

More than six hundred works in different musical genres are created by her pen. In 2013, His Royal Highness Henri, Grand Duke of Luxembourg awarded the composer the Order of Merit of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and the nomination CHEVALIER. In 2007 she received the prestigious commission of the Cultural Year 2007 Luxembourg and Greater Region for the composition "Gladius" for electric guitar and instrumental ensemble. The Cultural Commission and the Mayor, Mrs. Thérèse Gantenbein, awarded him the “Cultural Prize 2007” and the title of “Deserving” for the Municipality of Hesperange. In 2007 Albena Petrovic represented the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg by sitting as a member of the jury of the International Composition Competition “Valentino Bucchi” in Rome, Italy. Albena created her first work in public in 1979 at the age of 14, for the International Assembly of Children. This event is followed by many concerts, which represent a true creative research laboratory and a source of motivation. She study conducting and musical writing at the National Academy of Music “Pancho Vladiguérov” in Sofia. She is a student of the great composers Plamen Djouroff and Alexander Raychev. Albena holds the position of Musicologist and Music Manager for the International Festival “Apollonia” and at the National Music Agency in Sofia. Like many musicians of the generation of the Berlin Wall, she decided to go abroad to practice her profession as a pianist. Since 1996 Albena lives and works in Luxembourg. She perfected her skills in contemporary composition, analysis and computer music with Mr. Claude Lenners, adopting and developing a style strongly influenced by her "Cult of Research".

Elle fait investir son talent sans épargner: la carrière de pianiste, de chef de choeur très consacré, des centaines d'arrangements. Elle fait un travail pédagogique remarquable avec l'ASBL Artistes en Herbe, elle garde une position très active envers la société.

Beaucoup de ses compositions ont été présentées à l'étranger - en Allemagne, Italie, Espagne, Finlande, Portugal, France, Monaco, Andorre, Belgique, Bulgarie, Slovénie, Slovaquie, Serbie, Kosovo, Macédoine, Autriche, République Tchèque, Russie, USA, Singapore, Australie, Grèce, Pologne, Suisse, Brésil, Turquie, Mexico, San Salvador, Costa Rica.

Sa discographie est représentée par plusieurs labels internationaux et ses 6 albums CD monographiques sont publiés exclusivement par Solo Musica.de. Son oeuvre prolifique est représentée régulièrement sur la scène internationale et sa présence discographique est suivie par la presse spécialisée dans les pays d’Europe et USA, qui très récemment a remarqué ses  nouveaux albums ESCAPES ( 2026) et  CD SANCTUARY ( 2024)

Un ouvrage intitulé MY OPERA WORLD /Derrière les notes, qui est consacré à ses 8 opéras et son catalogue vocal, réalisé avec le support de la Bourse de documentation et publication de Kultur lx - Arts Council Luxembourg, est apparu  chez l’Edition L’Octanphare (France) en Décembre 2023 et a été présenté à la  Bibliothèque Nationale du Luxembourg de façon honorable. En l’occasion de la parution de son CD DREAMLOVER sous le label Solo musica.de, elle était honorée en couverture du journal RITMO (Espagne) avec l’éditorial dédié à son album, qui aussi a reçu 2 nominations pour le Prix international OPUS KLASSIK 2022. La tournée promotionnelle de son CD "Crystal Dream" avec le pianiste Romain Nosbaum a reçu un grand succès international - dans la presse aussi.
En 2019 le CD The Voyager sous label Solo.musica.de est nominé en 3 catégories pour le prix Opus Klassik 2019 et obtient une tournée promotionnelle de 8 concerts dans des salles entre les plus prestigieuses au Luxembourg, Sofia, Vienne, Barcelone, Reus, Hambourg. Le CD Bridges Of Love, avec la pianiste célèbre Plamena Mangova est paru le 27 Mars 2020 sous label Solo musica.de

Son opéra THE DARK (2015) a voyagé aux Festivals étrangers avec succès avec 12 présentations. En 2018 c'est la première mondiale de LOVE & JEALOUSY - deux opéras de chambre, commandés par State Opera Stara Zagora, Bulgarie. Suivent les prémieres de  ERMESINDE'S LONG WALK, THE PIANO BLUE,  THE STONE FEAST, WORLD OF DREAMS,  QUEEN OF THE AIR( 2025)

Grâce à la politique culturelle au Luxembourg favorable à la création musicale, Albena était impliquée dans la réalisation de plusieurs projets importants. Toujours très active en tant que compositeur, elle consacre une grande partie de son énergie créative à la formation des jeunes musiciens. En 2009, elle est devenue le Président fondateur du Concours International de Composition "Artistes En Herbe" Luxembourg, organisé sous le Haut patronage du Ministère de la Culture et qui depuis la première édition en 2010 a été un grand succès. La deuxième étape de ce Concours est le Forum International de Composition avec le soutien du Ministère de la Culture et de la SACEM Luxembourg. En ce moment est en préparation le 8-ème édition du Concours prévu pour 2027.

Many of her compositions have been presented abroad - in Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, France, Finland,  Monaco, Andorra, Belgium, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Slovakia, Serbia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Austria, Czech Republic, Russia, USA, Singapore, Australia, Greece, Poland, Switzerland, Brazil, Turkey, Mexico, San Salvador, Costa Rica. Her discography is represented by several international labels, and her six monographic CD albums are published exclusively by Solo Musica.de. Her prolific work is regularly performed internationally, and hes discography is followed by the specialized press in Europe and the USA, and the most recently new albums ESCAPES (2026) and CD SANCTUARY (2024). A book entitled MY OPERA WORLD / Behind the Notes, dedicated to her eight operas and vocal catalogue, produced with the support of the Kultur lx - Arts Council Luxembourg Documentation and Publication Grant, was published by Éditions L’Octanphare (France) in December 2023 and was presented to great acclaim at the National Library of Luxembourg. To mark the release of her CD DREAMLOVER under the Solo musica.de label, she was honored on the cover of the newspaper RITMO (Spain) with the editorial dedicated to her album, which also received 2 nominations for the OPUS KLASSIK 2022 International Prize. The promotional tour for her CD CRYSTAL DREAM (2015) with pianist Romain Nosbaum was a great international success - in the press as well. The second stage of this Competition is the International Composition Forum with the support of the Ministry of Culture and SACEM Luxembourg. At the moment, the 8th edition of the Competition is in preparation, scheduled for 2027.
